How is State PSC preparation different from UPSC preparation?

Mohammed Faizan Posted 2 months ago 281 views

State commissions follow a similar pattern of Prelims, Mains and an interview, but the syllabus includes many state specific topics.

  • State history, geography, culture and economy usually carry extra weight.
  • The language of the state may be tested in some exams.
  • Exam dates and vacancy cycles differ from state to state, so watch your commission website.
  • The overlap with UPSC General Studies is large, so a common base helps both.

If you plan to attempt both, build the common base first and add the state portion later.

The overlap is real, but always check the latest syllabus of your state. Some states change their pattern from time to time.
